Conscious Living and Following Your Purpose

Conscious Living Marq Martin

Let’s go aboard in a journey of infinite possibilities.  Walk on sacred paths and turn our dreams into living reality through what some call conscious living.  Have you mastered the art of giving gratitude for the life you live?  Do you plan to learn and love until your last breath of life?

Conscious living starts by doing our best to be our best.  When we’re at our best, we’re usually going on a fast pace to our destination.  On our way there, we create and learn.  When we make mistakes, we learn from them right away and move forward.  Usually you’ll know you’re not at your best when you fall flat on your face with disappointment and you decide to take a nap.  When you fall asleep or drink as a reaction to your disappointment, it’s a sign.

When you’re consciously giving your best and you fail at something, you wipe the dust off your face and keep running towards your goal.  Giving your best allows your spirit to breathe deeply, and people are inspired by your presence.  They feel something inspiring from you.

Once you commit yourself to this conscious path, you will experience what most would call magic.  When you commit to satisfy your soul, the universe will open up pathways for you.  You’ll connect with others who are in a similar path, helping hands will seem to magically appear.

Some call coincidence, others know it’s the magic of life.  All of this magic will happen in your life when you discover your true purpose.  As Joseph Campbell put it “..if you follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living.  When you see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you.  I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be”.

As you walk towards your life’s purpose let go of your gigantic backpack of the past.  Some people are holding on to a truck load of pain and regret, they remain stuck in life.  Yes, let go of the past as you run forward.  You put a heavy burden on yourself when you use your thought energy in regretting the past as well as fearing the future.

When you do this, you have very little energy left to find out what you want to create today.   Delete the past and embrace the joy of this moment.  Smile and take a deep breath.  As some people put it, don’t drive staring at the rearview mirror.

Did you know the biggest cause of unhappiness is when you relive those painful experiences of the past?  Forget about the people who hurt you or the mistakes you made, or how things went wrong.  Go on a mental diet of never thinking of the past or worrying of the future, and you’ll have so much more energy to enjoy each moment of your life.

In order to change things, we need to first embrace them as they are.  Be like a Stoic philosopher in ancient Greece and Rome and live in a philosophy of self-change.   Or like Kaizen in Japan, meaning continuous improvement.  Live in harmony with what’s going on around you.  Feel your feelings fully and accept them.  Accept the feelings of others as well.  Then act on your purpose regardless of your feelings.  Quit complaining about how things should be.  Accept reality and start to change yourself first before you change others and the world.  As Epictetus said “We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them”.

The quality of your life is much more important than how long you live.  You need to learn how to have a great quality life.  In order to learn, you need to be open to learning.  If you don’t learn by reading articles good books, failing, or mentors, life will teach the hard way.  Feel your good feelings, figure out who you really are and change what you don’t like about yourself.

Don’t waste a second trying to control the uncontrollable.  Let it go.  Understand that we are all made from the same energy.  So it’s very true that God is in everyone’s eyes including yours.  Now feel God’s presence within you.  As Shakespeare would say “To thy own self be true” and as the old American phrase said many times, “Fight for what you believe in!”.

When you haven’t figured out your purpose or don’t have goals yet.  Listen to the Universe.  Signs appear that tell you what road to take in life’s journey.  Many ignore the signs that help them figure out their purpose.  The easiest way is to follow your heart, and if you have other desires while following your current purpose or have events that happen that shine light bulbs in your mind, keep the lights on and you’ll figure out your purpose.  Follow your ideas, because they can lead you to your purpose.  Realize that your purpose is not usually having something, it’s usually more on becoming someone.

When you set a goal it’s all or nothing.  99% being committed to a goal means you’re not committed at all.  As they say “You’re either 100% committed or not committed at all”.  As people in the hood say “Don’t half step” meaning you’re hesitating and giving half the effort.  Give 100% of yourself in achieving your goals.
